With two top-tier Japanese companies now at the helm of delivering the prestigious Niseko resort, Taisei Corporation will bring designer Nikken Sekkei’s vision for Matiè Niseko to life – a uniquely luxurious development with unparalleled access to the Grand Hirafu slopes via its own private chairlift.
With the resort’s grand opening planned for 2023, construction of Matiè Niseko will start on April 15, 2021.
A ‘ground-breaking ceremony’ will also be held onsite at the end of May – approximately one month after the winter’s snow has melted away.
H Properties signed the official construction contract with Taisei Corporation on March 31, and a briefing is also scheduled to be held on April 13 – encouraging community consultation about Matiè Niseko with local residents and businesses.
Taisei Corporation is one of only five major Japanese general contractors to have the so-called ‘Super-Genecon’ title. The company is ranked third in the overall Japanese construction industry rankings, with sales totalling 1,750 billion Yen in 2020.
The leading Japanese firm is the construction company behind many popular international developments, including Japan National Stadium, Sumitomo Fudosan Shinjuku Central Park Tower, and two luxury brand – Chanel and Louis Vuitton – sales boutiques in Japan.
Taisei Corporation has built 58 hotel, resort, condominium and house developments globally – four of which are located on Hokkaido – including JR East Hotel Mets Sapporo, Sapporo Prince Hotel Tower and Hotel Clubby Sapporo.
On Matiè Niseko, Tasei Corporation and Nikken Sekkei intend to partner to develop a resort that is true to the look, feel and surrounds of Niseko — a modern interpretation of the Japanese traditional construction methods of ‘Engawa’ and ‘Tsumairi’.
The Matiè Niseko brand’s foundations are guided by the unique textures that comprise an individual’s life. The development’s name is derived from the term “matière”, which refers to the various materials that — when combined — create a distinctive piece of art.
Matiè Niseko offers an environment — a canvas — where guests can feel the very essence of their own experiences, unburdened by noise from the outside world.
Positioned at one of the highest points of the world-famous Grand Hirafu Village, Matiè Niseko offers a luxurious escape right on the slopes of the resort.
Located just a few minutes’ walk from the Hirafu Welcome Centre, and with direct access to the high-speed Hirafu Gondola, Matiè Niseko’s location redefines what it means to have Niseko’s world-famous powder snow at one’s doorstep.
The 120-unit resort will be built on the former Kogen Hotel site, on more than 6,400sqm of land. Matiè Niseko will boast over 21,000sqm of liveable space across seven storeys, and an underground car park.
The resort offers a new standard in onsite comfort and convenience never before seen in Niseko. It will feature comprehensive amenities, including gourmet dining, ski equipment rental, retail stores, a relaxation spa and luxurious infinity onsen, private owner lounge, kids club, and underground parking.
